Art Installation on the Strand

My drawings have been printed on large scale and installed as a hoarding outside of St Clement Danes Church on the Strand during building work on the church. I was commissioned by St Clement Danes Church, Universal Stone, Sheppard Architects, Stace, Hurst Pierce + Malcolm, the Diocese of London & the Royal Air Force (RAF). The hoarding is a planning condition of the London Diocese to tell the story of St Clement Danes Church for public engagement. The address of the church is St Clement Danes, the Central Church of the RAF, Strand, London, WC2R 1DH. Click on the link below to read more about the church. For information about the exhibition for the installation on Wednesday 9th April from 5-9PM, click on the link below.

Chloe created Wren 300 Playing Cards using her papercut designs of the churches and the Monument and Temple Bar, also built by the office of Sir Christopher Wren in the City of London, as the Jokers in the pack. You can buy the latest edition of her playing cards here. Below is a map Chloe created of all the churches featured in her pack of cards, in approximately the same location as they were originally built in the City of London by the office of Christopher Wren.

The playing cards are ordered by the date of the Saint of the churches’ Feast Day. They are poker cards ranking Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2 and Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs.

33 of the churches still exist; (1) St Mary Abchurch,  (3) St Mary Aldermary, (5) St Mary-At-Hill, (6) St Mary-le-Bow, (10) St Benet Paul's Wharf, (12) St Bride’s, (13) St Vedast-alias-Foster, (14) St Magnus the Martyr, (18) St Peter-upon-Cornhill, (19) St Paul’s Cathedral,  (24) St Margaret Lothbury, (25) St Margaret Pattens, (28) St James Garlickhythe, (29) St Anne and St Agnes, (31) St Lawrence Jewry, (36) St Michael’s Cornhill,  (38) St Michael Paternoster Royal, (45) St Martin Ludgate, (46) St Edmund the King and Martyr, (47) St Clement Eastcheap, (48) St Andrew by the Wardrobe, (49) St Andrew Holborn, (50) St Nicholas Cole Abbey, (52) St Stephen Walbrook.

There are 7 churches where only the tower remains; (4) St Mary Somerset, (7) Christchurch Greyfriars, (16) St Dunstan-in-the-East, (17) St Alban, Wood Street, (30) St Olave Jewry, (33) St Augustine, Watling Street, (43) All Hallows Lombard Street.

Two of the churches have been taken down and rebuilt outside of the City of London; (2) St Mary Aldermanbury, is now in Missouri in America and (43) All Hallows Lombard Street is now in Twickenham.

There is one church where the interior was created by the office of Christopher Wren; (8) Temple Church.

Chloe exhibited in Wren on Paper from the 6th September - 4th October 2023 at the Alan Baxter Gallery, Cowcross St in London. Her exhibition comprised of playing cards and 52 papercuts of the churches in the City of London, built by the office of Sir Christopher Wren after the Great Fire of London. Alongside photographer and printmaker James Newton, the exhibition was a celebration of Wren 300, 300 years since the death of Christopher Wren.
